Endogenous is what is formed inside, without intervention from the outside. This canvas was inspired to me by the poetry of Ronchaud Indeed the subject was for me to describe in painting, a form of amorous alchemy. For me love only lasts a very short moment, for the rest it is only a matter of courtesies and a pleasant form of etiquette. Love then, and die! Poème de Ronchaud Watch them pass, these ephemeral couples! In each other's arms entwined for a moment, All, before mixing their dust forever, Make the same oath: Always! A bold word which the skies which grow old With astonishment hear pronounced, And which the lips which turn pale And which are going to freeze dare to repeat. You who live so little, why this promise That a surge of hope snatches from your heart, Vain challenge that you throw into nothingness, in the intoxication of a moment of happiness? Lovers, around you an inflexible voice Cries to all that is born: “Love and die here below! Death is implacable and the sky insensible; You will not escape. Well ! since it is necessary, without disturbance and without murmur, Strengthened by this same love with which you get drunk And lost in the bosom of immense Nature, Love therefore, and die Louis de Ronchaud (1816-1887)
